15th Annual Santa Speedo Run Northalsted Returns Saturday, December 5

The annual fundraiser aims to set a record of $200,000 for Center on Halsted

The Santa Speedo Run Northalsted returns Saturday, December 5, 2026, for its 15th year. Doors open at Sidetrack at noon, and at 2 p.m. hundreds of runners in swimsuits, Santa hats, and whatever else they dare to wear take off on a 1-mile run down Halsted Street. Every dollar raised benefits Center on Halsted and the neighbors it serves across Chicagoland.

Event Details & History

Founded in 2011 by Karl Sponholtz and Jeffrey Colgan, the Santa Speedo Run began as a small gathering of friends raising funds for local LGBTQ+ causes. The event has grown into a beloved Chicago holiday tradition. Fifteen years later, the run has raised more than $1 million for Center on Halsted.

“If there’s one thing Northalsted knows how to do, it’s come together for our community and have a little fun along the way,” said Cole Nelson, event chair. “What began as a handful of friends braving the Chicago cold in Speedos with a little liquid courage has grown into a beloved tradition that’s raised more than $1 million dollars. Each year, the celebration lasts just one afternoon, but the funds we raise support Center on Halsted’s vital work year-round. Whether you’re running, fundraising, or cheering from the sidelines, we invite everyone to help make our 15th anniversary our biggest year yet.”

Participants gather at Sidetrack (3349 N. Halsted St.) when doors open at noon and set off on the run (or walk) at 2 p.m. Up to 700 runners and 1,500 guests are expected to run, cheer, and celebrate together.

Registration & Giving

Individuals and teams can register now at centeronhalsted.org/santaspeedorun. Standard registration is $55, and the price rises to $75 on Saturday, November 28, so sign up early! The event is expected to sell out. Registered runners receive the official 2026 T-shirt while supplies last.

Supporters can give in advance to any runner or team online, and donations are accepted at Sidetrack on event day. Fundraising continues through December 31. Last year’s run set a record, raising $189,000 for Center on Halsted. This year’s goal is $200,000.

Afterparty

The party does not stop at the finish line. The afterparty at Sidetrack features Chicago’s best drag entertainers, prizes, games, and an awards ceremony honoring the top individual and team fundraisers. Sidetrack stays open until 3 a.m.

The 2026 Santa Speedo Run Northalsted is supported by Alderman Bennett Lawson, American Airlines, Avita Pharmacy & QCare+, Maker’s Mark Whiskey, Men’s Room, Sidetrack, and Uberlube.
