Free to Be Proud is intentional and declarative. Pride has never been just about celebration — it is about visibility, dignity, resilience, and the right to exist safely and authentically. It is a reminder that no one is truly free until everyone is free to be.
Throughout the year, this theme will serve as a call to reflection and action, inviting our community to share what freedom means to them:
- Free to Be Seen.
- Free to Be Loved.
- Free to Be Safe.
- Free to Be Proud.
We invite you to join us on social media and share your own Free to Be story. Tell us what it means for you to live openly and authentically — and use #FreeToBe so we can celebrate and amplify your voice.

Free to Be Proud
Free to Be Proud is a declaration of who we are and what we stand for. It speaks to the fundamental freedom every person deserves — the freedom to live openly, love authentically, and exist proudly without fear or apology. For LGBTQ+ communities, that freedom has been hard-won through generations of resilience, courage, and collective action, and it is a freedom that must continue to be protected and expanded.
Pride was born from community and resistance, and it continues because of solidarity. Being free to be proud means honoring the legacy of those who came before us while recognizing the work that remains. It acknowledges that equality is not yet universal and that many in our community still face barriers to safety, dignity, and self-expression. Pride is both a celebration of progress and a reminder that visibility, advocacy, and justice go hand in hand.
Our call to action is rooted in the pursuit of justice for all. Pride is not only about joy — it is about showing up for one another, defending our freedoms, and standing against systems that seek to erase or exclude us. When we gather in Pride, we affirm that our community is strong, diverse, and united, and that everyone deserves the freedom to be seen, heard, and valued.
Together, we celebrate who we are, honor where we’ve been, and commit to a future where all people are truly free to live proudly, authentically, and unapologetically.
2026 Grand Marshals
The 2026 Community Grand Marshals were selected through a community nomination process and reflect the spirit of this year’s theme, Free to Be: Proud — honoring those who have paved the way while affirming the ongoing pursuit of freedom, visibility, and justice for all.
This year’s honorees include journalist and historian Tracy Baim; civil rights leader Mona Noriega; philanthropist and community advocate Evette Cardona; and the Alliance of Illinois Judges, the state’s LGBTQ+ judges’ association. Together, they represent decades of leadership, advocacy, and service to Chicago’s LGBTQ+ community and beyond.
The 55th annual Chicago Pride Parade will take place on Sunday, June 28, 2026, stepping off at 11 a.m. from the corner of Sheridan and Broadway. The parade will travel through Chicago’s landmark LGBTQ+ Northalsted neighborhood and into Lincoln Park, uniting hundreds of thousands of spectators and participants in a powerful celebration of pride, resilience, and community.
